Peace Corps has three goals:

  1. To help the people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained men and women.
  2. To help promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served.
  3. To help promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans.

This blog, of course, falls under the third goal.  So I’m opening up the floor: what do you have questions about?  What are you interested in learning about in South Africa and/or Peace Corps?  For PCVs and RPCVs, what were some topics that were of particular interest to your blog readers?

I plan to do a series of blog posts featuring ideas submitted by readers, and it would be great to hear from you all before I leave!  There are no bad ideas, although I will filter suggestions, questions and comments to determine if they’re appropriate to post publicly.

  1. What is the peace corps current goal in South Africa specifically? How much of personal impact do you hope to achieve in it’s goal?

A commonly held belief I have heard is that south africa is the most “western” country in africa. How accurate and appropriate is this statement compared to the traditional west (europe, USA)?

What is the wild animal population like in South Africa? Do you encounter wild animals in your daily routine traveling in the country and if so, what do you see? Is there any animal facts about south africa that americans might not know?

Thank you so much for you service to our country.
